The 2018 West Park Tournament of Stars presented by Sun Life Financial was a huge success, raising $580,000 to support the critical mission of West Park Healthcare Centre.
Eighteen teams participated in the 2nd annual event held March 23-24, joined by NBA alumni and other hoop-loving celebrities including Jerome ‘Junk Yard Dog’ Williams, Charles Oakley, Tracy Murray, Morris Peterson and more.
Junk Yard Dog was the top draft pick, chosen by team Sun Life at the Friday night Celebrity Draft Party at Maison Mercer nightclub. Rounding out the top five teams in the draft were El Mocambo, Sherrard & Carpenters, TD Bank-shot Ballers and Raymond James.
The highest individual fundraiser was former West Park amputee patient and Team Bounce Back member, Sam Paulos, who raised an incredible $10,623! Congratulations and thank you to all teams and players for your amazing efforts on behalf of West Park.
The competition was fierce but friendly at the Saturday tournament, held at the University of Toronto’s Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. The day also included a dunk demonstration by Justin ‘Jus Fly’ Darlington, a 3-point competition, youth skills clinic, Celebrity All-Star Game, and visits by Jack Armstrong, Honorary Ambassador of the tournament, and Toronto Mayor John Tory.
This year’s Tournament of Stars was supported by many generous sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor Sun Life Financial, Platinum Sponsor Raymond James, Gold Sponsors TD Bank and LiUNA Local 183, as well as KPMG, Fiera Capital, Extendicare Assist, el Mocambo, the Toronto Star, Sherrard Kuzz LLP, Carpenters & Allied Workers Local 27, Myodetox, West Park Rehab Plus, Cora and many more.
