Situated in a building separate from the main hospital building on West Park’s campus, the ELS features a more home-like setting with four apartments (two single and two double) to accommodate six current patients with issues requiring Chronic Assisted Ventilatory Care (CAVC).
The ELS space includes a communal family room and a kitchen area for entertainment and meal preparation as well as direct access to the outdoors on West Park’s 27-acre campus.
The comfort of a warmer, less clinical environment is bolstered by the care that Client Care Attendant staff provide 24/7 from an adjacent workstation. Patients are also able to direct their own care and the service enables patients to transition back to the community.

Funding: The cost of the service is covered for patients with a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card issued by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Patients of West Park's Enhanced Living Service are adults (18 years of age and older) who:
- Require invasive ventilatory support due to chronic ventilatory failure
- Are non-smokers
- Are medically stable and no longer require continuous cardio-respiratory monitoring and/or central venous access
For additional ELS information, please call the CAVC Service Manager at 416-243-3600 ext. 2307.
The cost of medical and professional care in standard ward accommodation (where four people share one room) is covered for patients with a valid Ontario Health Card issued by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care requires an additional daily complex continuing care co-payment, which is subject to change (a 30-day notice of increases will be provided).
Additional fees are charged for semi-private (two people per room) and private (one person per room) accommodation; details on preferred accommodation are available from West Park's Financial Services Department at 416-243-3600, ext. 2074.
