Description:
Providing in-patient rehabilitation for individuals with behaviours that put the patient or others at risk, and an acquired brain injury who require behavioural rehabilitation in order to live in the community.
Using principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis to provide a blend of skill training and behavioural approaches, we work with patients to develop and implement individualized behavioural rehabilitation plans. Treatment is designed to transition clients to pre-identified community settings secured by the referring agency.
The service is located in wheelchair-accessible rooms featuring common kitchen and lounge areas with features to ensure safety for patients and staff.
Our team includes Behaviour Support Workers, Nurses, a Behaviour Analyst, Social Worker, consultant Psychologist, consultant Physician, consultant Speech Language Pathologist, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
Eligibility Criteria:
Patients of West Park's ABIBS are adults (18 to 65 years of age) with an acquired brain injury as the result of a trauma or a disease process that has resulted in behaviours that put the person or others at risk. May consider those over 65 as long as no dementia is present.
Patients should also:
- be medically stable
- be under the care of a physician
- not require immediate hospitalization for medical or psychiatric reasons
- not be facing criminal charges

Cost:
The cost of medical and professional care is covered for patients with a valid Ontario Health Card issued by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
Community outreach behavioural services are also available to those with an ABI who currently reside in the community.
