About the LTV COE

    From its inception in 1904 as a Tuberculosis Sanitarium, the creation of the Chronic Assisted Ventilatory Care Service in 1985 and the designation by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in 2007 as the Long-Term Ventilation Centre of Excellence West Park Healthcare Centre has been a leader in advancing respiratory care. 

    Mandate  

    To champion improvements in long-term ventilation in collaboration with all stakeholders, across the continuum of care, in the province of Ontario.

    Key Objectives

    Training and Education
    To provide training and education for health care professionals, attendant service providers, caregivers and ventilator assisted individuals, to help foster safe, quality care in the most appropriate setting.

    Research and Best Practices
    To develop and disseminate best practices, care standards and innovation in long-term ventilation to support safe, quality care for ventilator assisted individuals

    Be Effective 
    To develop effective processes to transition ventilator assisted individuals across the continuum of care, in a safe, timely manner, in order to enhance their quality of life.

    Services to Support
    To assist in the development of services to support the care of individuals with respiratory failure requiring ventilatory support and those at risk of developing respiratory failure.
