Outpatient Clinic

A corridor of exam rooms in the Outpatient Clinic on Level 2

CONSTRUCTION HIGHLIGHTS

Outpatient Clinics
Located on Level 2, West Park's Outpatient Clinic will increase its space by six-fold to more than 21,000 square feet in the new building. With the intention to significantly increase patient reach, the expansive area is now almost completely boarded (walls) to create 18 exam rooms equipped with patient lifts and virtual care capabilities, specialty medical rooms and confidential meeting rooms.

The Outpatient Clinic will be home to specialty clinics such as amputee, spasticity, geriatrics, general surgery, urology and gynaecology. There will also be new rooms for:

  • Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) to treat a variety of conditions such as hearing, voice and sinus related issues, swallowing and speech, ear and balance disorders, etc.

  • Electromyography (EMG) to assess and conduct studies for the health of muscles and the nerve cells that control them

  • Audiology that will include a sound booth for assessments

  • A procedure room where physicians can conduct minor procedures that require more space/equipment or technology to support the visit

    • Within the Outpatient Clinic, there is an enclosed section for the tuberculosis (TB) clinic that will have negative pressure to contain airborne particles. The space is flexible in that it can be reverted back to a general clinic space when it is not in-use.

The TB clinic will increase its current space by five times and introduce a room for sputum induction, a procedure to help a patient cough up secretions from the lungs more easily, which West Park currently does not have.

DID YOU KNOW WEST PARK WILL HAVE THREE MULTI-SENSORY (SNOEZELEN) ROOMS?

People with physical and cognitive impairments often feel trapped in their bodies, unable to fully express their emotions like joy, anxiety or frustration.

Recognizing the need to provide patients with a therapeutic outlet, the new hospital will have three multi-sensory rooms to help patients de-stress, provide stimulation, and to some degree, take back control of their surroundings.

DID YOU KNOW THERE WILL BE OVER 100 BICYCLE PARKING SPACES?

As the month of May is National Bike Month, West Park's cycling community will be delighted to know that planners and architects had them in mind when designing the campus.

By providing convenient access to bicycle racks, it not only promotes staff, patients and visitor fitness and mental health, it is also contributes to West Park’s efforts in environmental sustainability.
