As part of a provincial pilot project, West Park will be the first Ontario hospital to include a Community Benefits and Apprenticeship Plan in the construction of its new building. It will guide how the local neighbourhood will benefit from the major infrastructure project.
The plan will be a component of the final agreement between West Park, Infrastructure Ontario, and the winning proponent (the team chosen to design, build, finance and maintain the new hospital).
Benefits of the plan may include:
- Training and employment opportunities
- Public access to the new landscaped pathways and some gardens
- New services for the community that may include supportive housing, hospice, doctor's offices, and new programs and services for local seniors and individuals with disabilities
- Opportunities for local businesses or social enterprises
Details of the Community Benefits plan will be available soon after the winning proponent is announced, expected in the fall of 2018.
West Park is committed to working with community groups, agencies and other stakeholders in the area to ensure the community benefits from this vital healthcare development, as it continues to help patients get their lives back.
