Catherine has a background in finance, governance, operations and technology with focus in the insurance and banking financial services industries in Canada, USA and Europe and in the health care and education sectors in Canada. She has particular expertise with finance and technology change projects, both global and domestic, and in working with multi-disciplinary teams in environments of business change. She has travelled extensively.
Catherine is an independent member of the Boards of Directors for - West Park Healthcare Centre in Toronto (and Investment and Quality Committees), The National Sanitarium Association (and Audit Committee) and Rosseau Lake College; as well as a volunteer advisor for a number of community organizations. She is an Executive in Residence at the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario and a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
In 2013, she established HeraC+ Associates, a firm with a focus on finance operations advisory support for organizations in financial services, health care and education.
From 2007-2012, she was with Aviva Group plc where she served as Global Finance Program Director in London UK; and as SVP and Chief Accountant for North America in Toronto and Chicago. From 2000-2006 she was with Canada Life Assurance Company, a subsidiary of Great West Lifeco where she held the roles of VP Corporate Controller in Toronto, CFO Ireland and Germany based in Dublin, Ireland; and VP Finance Europe. From 1991-2000, she was with CIBC where she held the roles of SVP and Chief Accountant, SVP Insurance and CFO Insurance. At Aviva, Canada Life and CIBC she both supported, and was a member of, numerous corporate Boards and related Audit, Risk, Investment and Pension Committees.
Catherine is an alumni of PriceWaterHouseCoopers where, following qualification as a chartered accountant, she provided several years of audit and advisory services both in Canada and also globally from the UK, as a member of the International Secretariat for accounting and audit policy.
