Gage Transition to Independent Living
Empowering those with physical disabilities
to live independent lives
The Gage Transition to Independent
Living offers opportunities in a community setting for people
with physical disabilities to learn and practice skills
that will assist them to achieve their goal of living independently
in the community. Many "graduates" of the Gage
go on to successfully live on their own.

A self-directed and individualized
learning environment featuring one-to-one or small
group discussion on a variety of topics, including:
o directing attendant services
o planning meals
o budgeting
o accessing community services
o managing health
o managing stress
o obtaining housing

An apartment program located
in an integrated building in downtown Toronto,
featuring 24-hour attendant services, living and
life skills and health education

The program is individualized
for each client as they work towards moving to
permanent housing in the community with attendant
services
Eligibility
Clients of the Gage Transition to
Independent Living Service are individuals 18 years of age
and older who require attendant services and want to learn
the skills necessary to live independently.
Clients must be medically stable
(not requiring immediate hospitalization for medical or
psychiatric reasons).

The client is responsible for normal
living expenses

Rent is subsidized for clients on
limited income through programs such as the Ontario
Disability Support Program (ODSP).
