Assisting individuals who have experienced
an acquired brain injury (ABI) to return safely to the community
Often people who have suffered a brain
injury through an accident or illness develop challenging
behaviours. They may, for example, become physically or verbally
aggressive, or have difficulty participating in activities
of daily living. At West Park, we work with clients who require
behavioural rehabilitation to help them live purposeful and
fulfilling lives.
West Park Healthcare Centre's Acquired
Brain Injury Behaviour Service (ABIBS) is a provincial resource
for patients with complex or severe behavioural dysfunction
who cannot be served elsewhere in Ontario. The ABI Service
is a Toronto centre in a network of regional centres of expertise
in the treatment of behavioural dysfunction for people with
acquired brain injury.
Community outreach services are also
available to those with an ABI who currently reside in the
community.
