West Park Hospital receives $40,000 gift from Weston Lions Club to Help People with TB
Toronto, Ontario Ontario's only in-patient TB unit received another
infusion from the Weston community, as the Weston Lions Club donated
$40,000 to the West Park Hospital Foundation to support the hospital's
renovated TB Service.
Ten other local community agencies were also presented with donations
as part of the Weston Lions Club's Millennium Project at the March 8th
evening dinner reception.
"We wanted to do something special for the new millennium by supporting
projects that were innovative and beneficial to our community," says
Jim Fraser, president of the Weston Lions Club. "We know of the great
job West Park does, and we saw a need for the treatment of TB in our
community. We simply wanted to get involved in whatever way we could."
In previous years, the Weston Lions Club has donated nearly $20,000
to support West Park's Special Care Service for patients with Alzheimer's
disease, and the Gage Transition to Independent Living Service, which
helps adults with disabilities learn to live independently in assisted
living environments.
"Community support has always played a significant role at the hospital,"
says Barry Monaghan, president and CEO of West Park Hospital. "The response
from our donors to our efforts to raise money for the TB Service has
been gratifying. The hospital greatly appreciates the Weston Lions Club
gift, which makes the club a partner in the fight against TB in our
communities."
West Park's renovated 16-bed TB Service features a state-of-the-art
air filtration system that cleans the air coming into, and going out
of, the unit. The $1.4 million renovation was made possible by the Ministry
of Health, which fulfilled a Health Services Restructuring Commission
directive that the hospital construct a renovated facility for the treatment
of complex TB cases, and a half-million dollar contribution from donors
to the West Park Hospital Foundation.
West Park Hospital is the designated western regional adult rehabilitation
centre for the Greater Toronto Area and a local provider of complex
continuing care and long-term care services.
