West Park and Infrastructure Ontario prequalify three teams to bid on the top job of designing, building, financing and maintaining the hospital's new six-storey, approximately 730,000 square foot facility. Learn more

Stage 3 Submission Complete

October 21, 2016

After spending an intense year engaging more than 450 patients, family members, employees, physicians and volunteers through 700-plus hours of formal meetings, workshops and open houses, West Park submitted its final planning document to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Learn more

RFQ Release

September 1, 2016

The process has begun to select a team, which includes an architect and construction company, to build West Park’s new hospital. Infrastructure Ontario (IO), the government body that oversees major construction projects in the province, issued the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a team to design, build, finance and maintain our new facility. Community Consultation

July 5, 2016

The City of Toronto hosts a community consultation on West Park's site plan application to build a larger hospital building than originally proposed. The change in plans is driven by the need to meet current healthcare standards and building codes. Public transit, traffic, parking and trees were among the issues community members raised. Staff, physicians, patients, families and volunteers were invited to view and critique the full-scale, cardboard mock-up of patient spaces for the new hospital throughout June. Learn more        

Stage 3: Output Specifications Begins

October 7, 2015

West Park launches Stage 3: Project Specific Output Specifications (PSOS) of the capital planning process. Using the Functional Program as a guide, the PSOS document outlines “rules” and “must-haves” that the developers bidding on the new hospital must incorporate in their architectural design. Learn more

Non-Hospital Development: Offer to Lease agreement signed with Amico Properties

April 13, 2015

West Park and Amico Properties sign an Offer to Lease agreement to develop five acres of land at the east end of West Park's campus. Revenue from the Non-Hospital Development will help cover the cost of the new Hospital. Learn more

Stage 2: Functional Program Begins

September 2, 2014

West Park launches its centre-wide Stage 2: Functional Program. This is a critical planning stage for the project as it will provide the architects and design team with a clear understanding of what West Park wants to achieve in the new and renovated facilities. Learn more

Request for Offer issued to lease Non-Hospital Development Zone

January 24, 2014

West Park Healthcare Centre issues a Request for Offer (RFO) to lease the Non-Hospital Development zone, a five-acre portion of the hospital’s campus intended to offer housing and related services for seniors and persons with disabilities. The revenue generated will contribute to West Park's local share cost of a new Hospital.

New Beacon for West Park: First physical icon of multimillion dollar expansion unveiled

Gateway SignThe symbolic first stake-in-the-ground for West Park's redevelopment is unveiled at the north-west corner of Eglinton and Emmett Avenues. The new, prominent landmark — a 7.6 metre (25-foot) sign — addresses the hospital's long-standing challenge of visibility within the community. Learn more

Pre-Functional Programming Begins

Taking advantage of an extended planning timeline, West Park is the first Ontario hospital to undertake an additional phase before officially entering into Stage 2: Functional Programming. Learn more

Government approves West Park's campus development project

The Ontario Government gives the green light to West Park’s development plans, an historic milestone for one of the most significant redevelopments in the hospital's history. Learn more

Zoning Approval

August 17, 2010

Toronto City Council approves zoning changes that will permit West Park to expand the hospital and construct mixed-use buildings on the five acres of ancillary lands.

The Business Case

West Park submits its 800-page "Business Case for Campus Redevelopment" to the Health Capital Investment Branch of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. It provides details on site and building plans, a fundraising strategy and other operational issues. The business case was approved in 2010.

Business Case Grant

June 2008

West Park took an important step towards redevelopment with a $3-million planning and development grant from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The grant, announced by York South-Weston MPP Laura Albanese, allowed West Park to prepare a business case.
