Qualifications
  • Graduate of a recognized Respiratory Therapy program
  • Bachelors degree/diploma in health science or related field
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
  • Participation in the CRTO QA program
  • Active membership in CSRT/RTSO preferred
  • Recent related experience
  • BCLS certification
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal) and organizational skills
  • Available to work a flexible schedule (evenings, nights, weekends)
  • Evidence of good performance history and attendance record
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the core values of West Park: Excellence, Respect, Trust, Collaboration and Accountability
  • Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors


Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive respiratory assessment and management plan for patients respiratory condition
  • Provide positive/negative pressure ventilator management
  • Provide tracheostomy tube management
  • Perform Arterial Blood Gas sampling and analysis
  • Provide oxygen therapy assessment and management
  • Develop and provide client and family teaching plans as appropriate to the individual patient
  • Provide student supervision
  • Develop and provide in-service education programs
  • Provide clinical leadership in Code Blue
  • Maintain knowledge of; mechanical ventilation weaning, alternative breathing/ assisted coughing assessment and training, glossopharyngeal breathing techniques
  • Provide airway management assistance at Bronchoscopic investigations
  • Pursue continuous professional development, including the RRCP/RRT PSIC
  • Participate in clinical evaluation
  • Participate in advances in practice
  • Participate in team/centre-wide committees
  • Ensure the timely and thorough completion of clinical workload and clinical documentation
  • Participate where required in the revenue generating activities of the centre
