Qualifications
  • Masters degree or equivalent in Speech Language Pathology
  • Eligible for CASLPO registration
  • Previous related experience and a strong commitment and interest in adult and geriatric rehabilitation
  • Ability to work within the consult hospital wide model
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and with a transdisciplinary team
  • Ability to work with diverse populations such as those requiring respiratory rehab, CCC, treatment for TB
  • Evidence of satisfactory attendance and punctuality
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written & verbal), and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, seeking direction appropriately


Responsibilities
  • Assess speech and swallowing and recommend treatment.
  • Provide patient and family education and counselling.
  • Participate in activities and interest groups relating to swallowing and speech.
  • Develop and maintain advances in practice related to the profession
  • Provide staff development.
  • Initiate referrals to other services
  • Provide clinical supervision to therapy assistant and students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Complete timely and thorough clinical documentation.
  • Complete clinical workload.
  • Participate in the evaluation of clinical practice.
  • Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors including:
  • Compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation
  • Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems
  • Taking corrective action, where possible
  • Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with the Centre s standards
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the core values of West Park: Excellence, Respect, Trust, Collaboration and Accountability
