| Qualifications | - Baccalaureate Degree in nursing, or diploma with equivalent work experience
- Diploma/Certificate in Occupational Health)
- Diploma/certificate in Infection Control preferred
- Current Certificate of Competence with the Ontario College of Nurses
- Current OHN designation (COHN) preferred
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred
- Current CPR Certification
- 5 years related Occupational Health & Safety experience, preferably in a hospital setting
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrated progressive management experience
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), regulations under the OHSA for healthcare and residential facilities, Public Hospitals Act, Health Promotion and Protection Act, Workplace and Safety Board Act and WHIMIS regulations
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated good judgement skills in crisis situations
- Proven ability to manage conflict
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels
- Intermediate computer skills (MS Office and MS Outlook)
- Working knowledge of Parklane an asset

| Responsibilities | - Ensure WPHC is in compliance with applicable occupational health, safety & infection control legislation, directives and guidelines by keeping abreast of changes, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and consulting with managers to ensure they include occupational health & infection control principles in their policies and procedures; provide consultation services to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee; partner with Human Resources to advance a healthy work environment strategies.
- Manage wellness and health & safety needs by overseeing Health Services such as pre-placement health reviews, immunization, communicable disease surveillance, crisis intervention, and primary care; oversee the following safety services - back care training, health & safety in the workplace, lifts and transfers, and Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) claims management; assist managers in developing their specific health & safety programs
- Oversee the management of incidental absence and short-term disability program including the absence management prevention and return to work strategies.
- Manage Infection Control Services by overseeing the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures to control, reduce and prevent the spread of infection for patients and staff; act as a resource to the Infection Control Committee and the Outbreak Management Team.
- Minimize and/or reduce costs associated with WSIB claims, and short and long term disability premiums by overseeing early intervention strategies such as modified work, early return to work programs, and partnering with insurance companies
- Establish centre-wide indicators of OH&S and Infection Control success, developing action plans around opportunities for improvement
- Be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of department specific policies and procedures by researching best practices, and maintaining current knowledge of applicable legislation and guidelines
- Prepare, monitor and administer the departmental budget by providing forecasts, and conducting monthly cost centre report reviews to identify variances and address them
