About West Park

Governance

West Park Healthcare Centre is governed by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors. Each member of the board provides his or her own unique skills or abilities to the work of the board in making decisions and providing guidance on issues related to finance and budgeting, service provision, operations, human resources and strategic planning.

West Park's Commitment to Excellence in Governance

Throughout the 2002-2003 Board year and in keeping with our philosophy of continuous performance improvement, the centre and foundation boards conducted a joint governance review that involved consideration of relevant literature and external benchmarks; evaluation of the effectiveness of the boards' current structures and functioning; making recommendations for improvements in governance practices, identifying further opportunities for collaboration and developing a multi-year action plan for implementing the recommendations.

This review resulted in seven (7) recommendations for improvement that are substantially complete. These are:

  1. Develop new or refine existing governance policies/procedures

  2. Ensure vision and values are clearly stated, communicated and modeled

  3. Refine new Director orientation and ongoing development programs

  4. Refine Board composition, structure and succession planning processes

  5. Update and align centre and foundation strategic plans

  6. Conduct an audit of risk management and quality improvement practices

  7. Assign responsibility and establish process for regular evaluation of Board and Director performance
