About West Park
Accessibility Planning
People with disabilities represent a significant and growing part
of our population:
-
According to Statistics Canada, about 1.9 million Ontarians
have disabilities, or about 16 per cent of the population.
-
By 2020, about 20 per cent of Ontarians are expected to
have some form of disability.
The provincial government has passed legislation designed to help
people across the province achieve greater access to the community.
Ontario law requires all publicly funded institutions,
including hospitals, to help improve accessibility by developing
plans to address "barriers" within their organizations that prevent
all Ontarians from fully participating in society.
Our Plan
In response to the legislation, West Park organized
an Accessibility Working Group (AWG), a multi-disciplinary team
of staff members and community stakeholders, to develop West
Park's Annual Accessibility Plan, with input from staff,
patients, residents, families and other stakeholders and consumers.

Through innovation and excellence, West Park strives to assist
people to live the fullest lives possible. With this plan, we have
undertaken the creation of a more inclusive centre for all who
enter our doors or who use our services.

Paralympian and motivational speaker Jeff Adams, along with
Ministry of Citizenship Accessibility Advisory Council policy
advisor Stefanie Marinich, are joined by members of West Park's
Accessibility Working Group (AWG). |
